Our Learning Journey

At Willowview we value each child as an individual and plan learning in a context that is meaningful to the children based on their interests.

We record the children’s learning through Floorbooks, wall displays and observation based Learning stories on our Seesaw app.  This helps us to gather information about your child’s learning and enable us to support them to meet and surpass their perceived potential.

Some tools we use to ensure we are fully supporting your children in their learning journey include, Curriculum for Excellence (Early level), The Developmental Milestone Toolkit, Realising the Ambition, and The Highland Literacy and Numeracy Trackers.

We consider our families part of our learning journey and we like you to be involved. We will share your children’s Learning Stories through our secure learning app Seesaw, you can view our Floorbooks in the setting and you will receive a formal report each year as well as a parent’s meeting.  However, staff are available for you to speak with should you ever have a query or concern at any time.

We have two large playrooms and a nuture space in the setting  along with an extensive outdoor area for children to freely access and explore.

Key Worker Role

Each child will be assigned a key group and a Key Worker when they start nursery.

All children play together throughout the day, and the Key Worker may take their Key Group for a short 10 minute learning session some days.  Children will be encouraged to join in, however they will have the option to continue what they are doing if they wish.

The Key worker is responsible for a group of 5 children (if under 3 years) or 8 children (ages 3-5 years).

They are responsible for recording and planning children’s learning, and can be a point of contact for families too.   All practitioners support children in their play and learning, The Key Worker collates this information to ensure children’s learning and development needs are met.
